Tom Leung is running for School Committee because he truly cares about Quincy. Through his foundation growing up in Quincy and in his current family life, he experiences the impact of School Committee decisions every day.
As a life-long Quincy resident, graduate of Quincy High School, and a parent of three young children who attend Quincy Public Schools, he has unique insight into what is working well and what needs improvement.
Tom will be a much needed breath of fresh air for Quincy’s School Committee, providing a new perspective, strong advocacy for families, and a deep commitment to continuous improvement for our schools.
A Quincy Success Story
Tom was raised in the Houghs Neck neighborhood of Quincy, and is a proud product of Quincy Public Schools. He excelled academically, graduating Quincy High School in 1997 before earning dual degrees in Computer Science and Finance from Tufts University, and going on to earn an MBA from Northeastern. Academic excellence runs in the family—his sister graduated a year earlier, also ranking second in her class and later attending Harvard University.
As the child of immigrant parents with limited English proficiency, Tom experienced firsthand the challenges families that are new to this country face assimilating and understanding the American school system. Growing up in this setting, he faced and overcame the struggles many families endure to provide a better future for their children.
This experience shaped his commitment to helping all children succeed in their education by ensuring equitable access to resources, well-equipped classrooms, and a supportive learning environment. He believes every child deserves the tools and opportunities to reach their full potential. By serving on the QPS School Committee, he will work tirelessly to achieve those goals.
Tom’s education and work experience have given him solid finance and investment expertise. He will bring a cost-effective and strategic approach to school budgeting—ensuring Quincy’s schools operate efficiently while remaining competitive and highly ranked. Tom will strive to ensure taxpayer dollars that fund QPS are prioritized according to the needs and issues that matter most to Quincy students and families.
Why Tom is Running
Tom’s journey running for School Committee began with his advocacy for Lunar New Year recognition as an official school holiday in Quincy’s schools. As an active community member, he attended School Committee and City Council meetings for four years, witnessing overwhelming support for the holiday from the Mayor, City Councilors, and countless residents.
Despite no community opposition and surveys showing overwhelming community support for the holiday, while some members of the School Committee have been in favor of adding Lunar New Year as an official school holiday on the QPS calendar, the Committee has yet to achieve a majority vote in favor of this issue. This experience opened Tom’s eyes to the need for new representative, contemporary voices on the School Committee.
In addition to Lunar New Year, Tom also began to consider other critical issues that matter to Quincy’s families and that need advocacy on the School Committee. By talking to other QPS families and community members, Tom developed an understanding of the need for improving access to special education services, the importance of the equitable availability of technology and other resources, and a desire for more learning opportunities that will prepare Quincy’s students for the future.
Tom knows Quincy’s families need accurate representation when decisions are being made, that’s why Tom is running to be your voice! He will advocate for the community where he grew up and is raising his own children now. He will make sure Quincy’s schools meet the highest standards for inclusivity, innovation, and competitiveness.

Câu Chuyện Thành Công Tại Quincy
Tom lớn lên tại khu phố Houghs Neck, Quincy và là một học sinh tiêu biểu của hệ thống Trường Công Lập Quincy (QPS). Anh xuất sắc tốt nghiệp trường Quincy High School năm 1997 với danh hiệu học sinh xuất sắc thứ hai (Salutatorian). Sau đó, Tom theo học tại Đại học Tufts (Tufts University) và nhận bằng kép về Khoa học Máy Tính (Computer Science) và Tài Chính (Finance), tiếp tục học lên bằng MBA tại Đại học Northeastern (Northeastern University). Vì Sao Tom Tham Gia Tranh Cử
Quyết định tranh cử của Tom bắt đầu từ việc anh vận động đưa Tết Nguyên Đán (Lunar New Year) trở thành một ngày nghỉ học chính thức trong lịch học của QPS. Là một người tích cực tham gia các hoạt động cộng đồng, anh đã dành bốn năm tham dự các cuộc họp của Ủy Ban Trường Học (School Committee) và Hội Đồng Thành Phố (City Council), nơi anh chứng kiến sự ủng hộ mạnh mẽ của Thị Trưởng, các Ủy Viên Hội Đồng và đông đảo cư dân dành cho đề xuất này.
Mặc dù không có sự phản đối nào từ cộng đồng và các cuộc khảo sát cho thấy đa số người dân đều ủng hộ, nhưng Ủy Ban Trường Học vẫn chưa thể đạt đủ số phiếu đa số để chính thức công nhận Tết Nguyên Đán là một ngày nghỉ học trong lịch của QPS. On March 14, 2025, at 6:00 PM, Tom Leung, a lifelong Quincy resident, proud graduate of Quincy Public Schools, and dedicated father of three current QPS students, will officially launch his campaign for Quincy School Committee at the Wah Lum Kung fu and Tai chi Academy on 1145D Hancock Street Quincy, MA 02169. (Entrance and Parking are in the back of the building - accessed from Dimmock Street, lower level) This high-energy event is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a chance for the community to come together, hear Tom’s vision, and be part of the movement to bring fresh leadership, transparency, and strong advocacy to Quincy’s schools.
